Perhaps is a sign that the recession is over and business is booming. Large commercial construction projects and new residential development is taking place all across Northwest Indiana in both Lake and Porter Counties.
In Lake County, the Shops on Main are coming together nicely. Most of the retail shops including Gordman’s, Ross, and Pier One are now open and several new restaurants including Carrabba’s, Meatheads, Noodles & Company, and Tomato Bar have recently opened as well. Further north in Hammond, development is taking place at the new Oxbow Landing at the intersection of Kennedy Avenue and I-80/94. A Buffalo Wild Wings and a Hampton Inn are the first tenants to occupy space at this new Hammond commercial development. Just west of Oxbow Landing, the new Super Walmart is under construction next to Cabela’s at Indianapolis Blvd and I-80/94 occupying the golf course of the former Woodmar Country Club which was demolished in 2006 to make room for Cabela’s.
In Porter County, the Marina Shores at Dune Harbor property along US 12 in Portage is under new ownership and eager to develop the property which has sat largely empty since the housing bubble burst several years ago. Today, the restaurant on the property, Latitude’s, has opened under new ownership and management featuring local Executive Chef Dave, renowned for his culinary skills and long service at the Strongbow Inn in Valparaiso. Single family lots are available and ready for immediate construction. Condo living is also available in homes built buy local home builder Steiner Homes.
